The origins of chino trousers
The popularity of chinos grew in the US when Spanish-American war veterans returned from the Philippines with their Chinese-made military trousers.
These trousers were known in Spanish as 'pantalones chinos' (Chinese trousers). Later the design was improved slightly and the name abbreviated, the 'chino' was born.
